An eight-year-old girl was run over by a trailer at a Christmas parade in Murrells Inlet Sunday afternoon.

Around 3:50 p.m., the girl fell off the back of a pickup truck and was run over by the trailer of a float, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones.

The incident occurred on Highway 17 Business in Murrells Inlet.

The girl was airlifted to MUSC for serious but non-life threatening injuries, said Jones.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Department is investigating. Jones says the fall was an accident, and the driver will not be charged.
