Aynor Middle School held its first show Friday night of "Yes, Virginia, The Musical."

Macy's Department Store gave the school $1,000 to put on the play. It was one of 100 schools chosen for the grant.

The play is about an 8-year-old girl who wrote a letter to the newspaper in 1897 to find out if Santa was real.

The paper responded, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."

Molly Woodle plays Virginia in the Aynor Middle School production. She had never seen the story before, but now understands its message.

"It's important because they keep on hoping and then it gives them their hope in their life to believe in other things," Woodle said.

The students will perform the play three more times; Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.
