Man killed on moped

A 63-year-old man was struck and killed on his moped on Highway 381 in Gibson at the Richmond-Scotland County line, Tuesday morning, said North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Justin Garner.

The man was pronounced dead a few hours later at the hospital.

Garner said the man was making a left turn when he was hit by a the driver of a car trying to pass the moped.

Garner said the driver saw the moped but didn't anticipate the man making a left turn.

Charges are pending against the driver of the car.

We'll let you know when the victim's name is released.
