Dillon police have charged Craig Alexander Bellmon, 27, with murder in the beating death of James "Greg" McClellan, 39.
McClellan was beaten at a home on Beaufort Street around 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to Coroner Donnie Grimsley.
A police report stated that Bellmon says McClellan came to the home and grabbed him, so they started fighting.
Bellmon tells police he reached over and picked up a baseball bat and started hitting McClellan several times.
After hitting McClellan on the head with the bat, Bellmon then called 911, according to the report.
Grimsley says someone in the home took McClellan to the hospital, where he died.
An autopsy is being performed to determine an exact cause of death.
Bellmon is being held at the Dillon County Detention Center.
