A five-vehicle crash in Berkeley County killed four people- one from Loris, two from Georgetown and one from Jamestown.

The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 17A near Freefall Lane.

South Carolina Highway Patrol was on scene Thursday morning trying to figure out what caused the wreck.

Several vehicles from the Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Church of Georgetown were traveling south when they collided with a northbound vehicle, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

In one of the vans, three people were killed. Edith Jackson, 55, Angie Arthur, 45, were from Georgetown. Melvira Johnson, 51, was from Loris. They died from thermal burns when the van burst into flames.

Johnson was part of the Theatre of the Republic in Conway for 15 years.

A fourth person in the van was taken to the hospital and his condition hasn't been released.

Also killed in another vehicle was Steven Morse, 36, of Jamestown. He died from body trauma, the coroner said.

The Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Church of Georgetown said they will hold a memorial service and funeral for the victims but the details of a date and time have not been set yet.

The wreck is still under investigation by the Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
