Man arrested for robbing doughnut shop after leading police on chase

A Charleston man robbed a clerk at a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop and then led police on a chase through North Myrtle Beach Tuesday. according to an incident report.

Police responded to the Krispy Kreme on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach in reference to an armed robbery around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

The suspect, later identified as Taylor McClure Watkins, 24, showed a gun from his waistband and told the clerk to give him the money from the register, the clerk told police.

Police notified other law enforcement agencies that they were looking for a green sedan, which they believed Watkins was driving.

An officer spotted the car, tried to pull the driver over on Highway 17, but Watkins didn't stop, according to the incident report.

The officer followed the sedan, and Horry County police joined in the chase.

Horry County police put down stop sticks on Highway 9 at Pine Needle Road. The suspect drove over the sticks, puncturing two tires. He was then arrested.

Watkins was taken to Sea Coast Medical Center after he told police he had just taken methadone tablets, according to the report.

Police say they found a BB gun and 20 bottles of schedule II drugs in the sedan.

Watkins is charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm during a Violent Crime, Kidnapping, and Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $43,000 bond.
