South Carolina wildlife officials say it's likely a 16-foot-long great white shark was off the South Carolina coast last weekend.

But officials don't think that the satellite reading showing the beast at Daniel Island is correct.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that Natural Resources Department biologist Bryan Frazier says it's very likely the big shark was very close to Charleston Harbor.

But Frazier says the shark was almost certainly not at Daniel Island on Sunday. Experts say the combination of shark diving and moving satellites sometimes gives false readings.

The nearly 3,500 pound shark was tagged in Massachusetts earlier this year and almost immediately headed south.

The latest satellite tag ping from the shark showed it in the ocean off the Savannah River.
