A fire was reported at the Marion County School of Music on North Main Street just outside of Marion around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire started in a bedroom on the top floor of the school, according to Marion County Assistant Fire Chief Chris McKenzie.

McKenzie says about ten people were inside, a couple of students tried to use fire extinguishers to put out the fire, but were unsuccessful.

"We tried, and oh, it's been like three fire extinguishers in the fire and some water. But it was really fast," said Samer Bayda.

"We opened the door and find the next room, it was fire," said Wallace Hue.

All of those inside escaped with no injury.

Officials with the school say there will be no classes Thursday.

Firefighters are trying to determine a cause.

We're told about 50 people are enrolled in the Marion County School of Music also known as the Marion County Private Academy.

Some of the students are from different countries.

The school's website says the academy has been open for eight years and now provides a full core curriculum.
