A month ago St. James High School football coach, Mark Fischer, announced he was diagnosed with Myloma.
Despite the diagnosis he continues to lead the Sharks on the sidelines and will for the remainder of the season.
"It was a tragic moment," said Senior Quarterback Josh Roper. "I think everybody in the locker room cried our eyes out and when we got home we cried some more. It was hard, but we couldn't let that get in the way of our football season."
Sunday morning, many in the community came together for a fundraiser in Murrells Inlet to support him.
However, among those who attended were some of St. James' rivals under the Friday night lights, Waccamaw High School.
The last time the players saw each other was in the Conway National Bank Kickoff Classic, they did not play during the regular season.
The Waccamaw players said they wanted to support Coach Fischer because the St. James team would do the same for them.
"I do think that we need to support each other. I mean just leave it on the field after the games and we can all just be friends," said Senior Ryan Millane.
Coach Fischer said he was overwhelmed by their support.
"We're competitors. We compete every week and try to beat the other guy, but at the end of the day we're still part of a football family," said Fischer.
Fischer said today although the Sharks aren't in the playoffs this year, they're not resting up just yet.
He said next year's season begins Monday in the weight room.
Fischer says he will continue to coach.
