The Horry County Animal Care Center received a $51,060 grant from PetSmart Charities to trap, neuter, and return 1,000 feral cats.

This grant will help lower the number of kittens being born in the 29526 zip code, the Conway area.

With the grant they will also purchase 35 traps.

When the Animal Care Center traps the animals, they will vaccinate the cats and "ear tip" them before releasing them back where they were found.

An ear-tipped cat is a universal sign that a cat has been neutered.

It costs around $50-$80 to neuter a cat.

Horry County will begin the trap, neuter, return process on December 1.

The Horry County Animal Care Center did apply for the grant.

Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier says this grant is wonderful because PetSmart usually gives their grants to Humane Societies and non-governmental entities.

They are asking for the communities help. If you see stray cats in your area, you can call the Horry County Animal Care Center at 843-915-5172. They also are on facebook andonline.
