Horry County Central Traffic Court documents contradict state representative Tracy Edge's account about the events that led up to his arrest last month.
North Myrtle Beach police arrested Edge on September 27th for driving with a suspended license.
After his arrest, Edge said the entire ordeal was a misunderstanding.
After he was released on bond, Edge told NewsChannel 15 that his license was suspended because of an unpaid traffic ticket.
He said that three days before he had paid that ticket online and had sent money to the Department of Motor Vehicles in Columbia to have his license reinstated.
"I paid the fine and then mailed the reinstatement fee on into Columbia on Monday," said Edge in a September 27th interview after he was released from jail. "I didn't have a receipt or anything with me but as far as, I knew everything was taken care of...You pay the fine online."
But Horry County records differ from Edge's account.
While Edge said he paid the fine on Monday, September 24, Central Traffic Court records show that ticket was actually paid at 11:23 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, the day of Edge's arrest.
The documents show Edge made his payment six hours after he got out of jail, and it was processed three seconds later.
Friday afternoon, Edge reinforced what he said last month.
He said he made the payment on Monday, but it took until Thursday for the payment to clear the traffic court's system.
The traffic court says that's not the way the payment system works, and the ticket was paid on Thursday after his arrest.
Edge has served as state representative for District 104, the North Myrtle Beach area, since 1996.
He faces Democrat Charles Randall in the upcoming November election.
