Victims of domestic violence have a safe haven again in Georgetown County. The Family Justice Center of Georgetown County is now operating a safe house.
The center was told this week the Department of Social Services agreed to split up the region that used to consist of Georgetown and Horry counties. DSS gave the center $25,000.
Officials with the center say victims will receive help in case management, as well as shelter and support.
But they are worried about funding.
"This puts our budget directly in the red. It's like hurray, but yikes!," Chairwoman for the center's Board of Directors Alicia Barnes said.
The safe house used to be operated by Citizens Against Spouse Abuse. It was closed in June when the group stopped operating.
CASA 100, a group that raised money for the safe house, is giving the center $12,000 from a fundraiser in March.
Renovations are happening now at the safe house.
It could be fully-operational early next year, but is already offering shelter.
