A man whose boat capsized in Murrells Inlet Saturday night is safe after being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Officer Jessica Potter says just before 6 p.m. a good samaritan at the Garden City Pier let them know there was a man treading water offshore.

After searching for about an hour and a half they rescued Denis Ticnor about a half mile off shore.

He was wearing a life jacket and was not injured.

Horry County Police rescue crews assisted with the search.

Potter encourages all boaters to wear life jackets while on the water because wearing one "significantly increases the ability to survive in unpredictable accidents."
