Surfside Beach police responded to Sundown Bar Saturday night for an injured woman who walked into the bar, according to a police report.
The officers say when they got there, she was sitting outside the bar and was severely injured.
The woman told police that her boyfriend had beaten her. She had a broken jaw, several missing teeth, and a brain bleed according to the police report.
The woman told police that she lived with her boyfriend, David McCarty, in Surfside Beach for about two months.
When officers went to the couple's home, they were told by the woman's mother that McCarty had cleared his belongings out of the home including the woman's purse and computer.
McCarty also took the woman's car, a Suburu Impreza.
Surfside Beach police then entered the vehicle as missing.
According to Surfside Beach Police Chief Mike Frederick, McCarty was spotted by police in North Carolina Sunday night and ran from them. Where the chase started in North Carolina has not been released. The chase lasted until Greensville, Virginia, where police put down stop sticks to stop the car, and he was arrested.
According to Sgt. Cherie Scott with the Southside Regional Jail in Virginia, McCarty is charged there with DUI, Stolen Goods up to $200, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Stop for Blue Light.
In North Carolina, McCarty faces a charge of Eluding with Stolen Goods.
McCarty will be extradited back to Surfside Beach from Virginia. He will face charges of Assault and Battery 1st Degree and Grand Larceny.
