COLUMBIA -- Governor Nikki Haley is touring state agencies with a stop Monday at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columba to look at a program aimed at getting those inside back into society.

The governor announced there were 175 children locked up two years ago and as of today, there are 99.

She toured the "Store of Hope" that helps prepare young people for jobs outside the DJJ.

It teaches them job skills, ranging from construction work to graphic arts.

"We make welders out of you. We make artists out of you. Then we teach you how to cover material and make love seats and wing chairs," Governor Haley said.

Haley said that helps the kids by not only helping them be productive citizens, but by keeping them from returning to the system.
