Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a fire on Dayflower Drive in Longs Saturday. Leslie Yancey, with HCFR, said they received reports one person was trapped inside.
A 63-year-old man of Longs died of smoke inhalation, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Williard.
Firefighters responded around 9:30 p.m and saw the living area on fire.
Upon a primary search, crews located the victim, said Yancey.
Horry County police are assisting HCFR on the investigation.
Police say they are investigating the incident as a suicide.
As smoke filled the garage of the home, the victim was seen in his wheel chair pushing himself into the garage and closed the garage door behind him, according to Sgt. Robert Kegler.
