Horry County Democrats held a debate viewing party at Spencer'z bar and grill in Surfside Beach Wednesday evening, inviting Republicans to watch the debate with them.

No matter the political affiliation, every person had their reason to watch the debate.

"There's certain things that would sway me a little bit," said Democrat Elenor Conmy.

Small business owner, Larry Bennett had another reason.

"I'm just interested in what people have to say," said Bennett.

Coastal Carolina University Assistant Professor Frederick Wood says although the debates usually do not spur a large change in the polls, it's important to watch your chosen candidate to see what they have to say.

"With voter registration needing to be completed by the end of the week, this is your last chance to get motivated to vote," said Wood.

Owner of Spencer'z bar and grill, Bill Spencer, said his motivation to host a viewing party for the debate was spurred by another reason.

"After it's over we'll have some good conversations about who's right and who's wrong but ultimately at the end of the day, I sell pizza, burgers, and wings, that's what I've got to do!" said Spencer.

Assistant Professor Wood said if you missed Tuesday's debate be sure to tune in to the next ones. Wood says it's important to hear information directly from the candidates.

The next debate is on October 16th.
