LAURINBURG, NC -- Laurinburg police arrested five people who they say were involved in a counterfeiting ring.
Police were called to a Walmart store about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for a counterfeit $100 bill.
They spoke with Jazmen Iesah Jones, 22, about using the bill.
They also stopped the car they say Jones rode in to the Walmart. They say they found several items used in the manufacture of counterfeit money, including a printer, paper cutter and other counterfeit bills.
Police arrested the occupants of the vehicle, Korey Maurice McGirt, 26, and Christopher Moore, 25.
They say further investigation found Awyanna Blackmon, 25, passing another counterfeit bill at 6:30 that morning.
While they were investigating, police got another call about another counterfeit bill at the Walmart store. They showed up an arrested Fairley Leo Pegues, 55.
Police say all the bills came from the same place. They say the case is still unfolding and they have reached out to Rockingham and Raeford to see if the bills have reached those towns.
The U.S. Secret Service is helping Laurinburg police with the investigation.
All five people are charged with Forgery of an Instrument, Uttering a Forged Instrument, and Felony Conspiracy.
Other charges are possible.
