A 54-year-old woman was attacked by dogs and killed at a home on Sharon Lane in Pembroke, NC, Tuesday afternoon.
When deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office arrived, they say the dogs had the lady down near the gate of the fenced in backyard.
The deputies were able to remove the dogs and found she had already died.
Her clothes had been torn off and her body mangled in the attack.
Deputies say the woman used a rake to try to help a smaller dog that was being attacked by several larger dogs, but the dogs attacked her.
Her name is being withheld until her family can be notified.
We're told the dogs were owned by relatives of the woman. Deputies have not said what kind of dogs attacked the woman.
It's up to the district attorney to determine if charges will be filed.
The dogs have been seized.
