Firefighters were called to the Georgetown County recycling center in Pawleys Island around 9:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a hand grenade found in a dumpster, according to Midway Fire Rescue spokesman Bob Bebee.

The Georgetown County recycling center on Grate Avenue was closed for more than an hour but is now back open.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office says the "suspicious item" was found in a dumpster.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Bomb Disposal Unit was called in.

After an investigation, the item in question was determined to be inert.
