The South Carolina Department of Revenue says Crystal Zimmerman, 32, of Myrtle Beach is charged with Assisting in the Preparation of a Fraudulent Income Tax Return and two counts of Conspiracy, and Joe Lewis Williams, 32, is charged with one count of Forgery and one count of Assisting in the Preparation of a Fraudulent Income Tax Return and and four counts of conspiracy.
Zimmerman submitted a fraudulent W2 form stating she earned $16,899 and had $760 in state taxes withheld even though she didn't work for the employer, according to the Department of Revenue. They say she claimed a state tax refund of $760 she was not entitled to. The department also says she conspired with a second and third party to willfully assist in the preparation of a fraudulent tax return.
The South Carolina Department of Revenue says Joe Lewis Williams, 32, also of Myrtle Beach gave a fraudulent W2 form to a tax preparer. Williams didn't work for the employer but said he earned $15,500 in wages and had $697 in state taxes withheld. He claimed a federal and state refund totaling $5,722 which he wasn't entitled to. They also say he conspired with other people to willfully assist in the preparation of a fraudulent tax return in Horry County.
Both are awaiting separate bond hearings.
