COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn is joining MSNBC commentator Al Sharpton for a voter forum in Columbia.

The event will be held Tuesday, on National Voter Registration day.

Clyburn says the rally will give him a chance to talk about how hard blacks had to fight to win the right to vote without restrictions in this country. The Democrat says he also plans to speak out against voter ID laws.

Students from Benedict College and Allen University have been invited to the forum, which will also have a voter registration drive.

South Carolina's new voter ID law is being evaluated by the U.S. Justice Department.
