Myrtle Beach Police arrested a fugitive from North Carolina on Sunday.

Police responded to a call around 2:00 a.m about people drinking at the Sand Bucket Motel off North Ocean Boulevard.

According to the police report, Joseph Eugene Barnes, 27, was arrested for having an open container and charged with drinking in public.

Later that morning, officers were advised that Barnes was wanted by the North Carolina Department of Corrections on charges carrying a penalty of at least one year.

Barnes is currently being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting extradition.

He is the sixth fugitive caught in Horry County in the last month.
