HORRY COUNTY -- Driver killed in crash on Hwy 17 in Horry County

Highway Patrol says the driver of a 2000 Dodge Van was killed when she tried to cross Highway 17 Bypass in front of East Coast Honda and collided with a 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

It happened just after 3 p.m. Monday.

Glema Evans, 56, of Myrtle Beach died from injuries received in the crash at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center around 3:30 p.m. Monday, according to Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler with the Horry County Coroner's Office.

Spokesman Sonny Collins says the driver of the van was leaving East Coast Honda and trying to cross Highway 17 when he hit the Jeep.

The driver of the Jeep was wearing a seat belt and was taken to the hospital.

Evans, the driver of the van was also wearing a seat belt, but she did not survive.

No charges are expected.
