Sheriff Wayne Byrd has upheld the firing of his former lieutenant Michael Hall, according to Darlington County Sheriff's Office spokesman Captain Andy Locklair.

Hall hoped he would get his job back following a grievance hearing last month.

He was fired the night of the June 12 primary, just hours after Sheriff Byrd won his bid for re-election.

Hall told the grievance committee he lost his job on accusations he misused computers.

He filed a lawsuit on July 20 against the Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Wayne Byrd on grounds of wrongful termination, civil conspiracy and defamation.

The grievance committee made a recommendation to Byrd based on the testimony at the hearing, but the committee says Byrd had the final say as to whether Hall would be reinstated.

The Darlington County Sheriff's Office and the Darlington County Attorney have yet to respond to any of the allegations in Hall's lawsuit.
