(AP) -- Police are taking six protesters away in handcuffs after they blocked a street in downtown Charlotte near the site of the Democratic National Convention.

The group was seated in the road near the corporate headquarters for Duke Energy. They had locked arms and were sitting on top of a banner claiming that the energy company was harming the environment.

Two-dozen cops surrounded them and eventually lifted up the protesters who refused to move and put them into prisoner transport vans.

Standing nearby were more protesters chanting: "The earth is not for sale."

Including Thursday's protest, 21 people have been either arrested or taken away in handcuffs at protests this week. The convention ends Thursday night.

Several other sit-ins that blocked traffic this week have ended without arrests.
