Federal documents say Ronnie Glenn Eddings, 41, of Lumberton has been sentenced to five years in prison for improperly taking benefits from the Veterans Administration.

Eddings committed the crimes from October of 1994 to March of 2010 and knowingly made false statements to the VA, according to documents.

During a medical examination in 2006, Eddings said he was paralyzed from the waist down following spinal injury. Eddings said he could not move his lower limbs and was bound to a wheelchair.

Federal officials say none of that information was true.

Eddings has to pay back about $900,000 in restitution.

He is expected to begin serving his five year prison sentence on September 18.
