NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - An innovative South Carolina-based after-school program that helps teach students to control their tempers and make good choices is going national.

WINGS for Kids started in Charleston 16 years ago, and on Tuesday expands to two schools in Fulton County, Ga.

Organizers say that WINGS for Kids is the only program of its kind that teaches emotional skills to children in an after-school setting.

The program has been able to expand thanks to a $1 million donation from a board member last year. The organization is in the midst of a fundraising campaign and is next looking to expand in Charlotte, Baltimore or Jacksonville, Fla.
