Officials with Dillon County Fire Station One say a child managed to escape a fire at Saint Stephens Apartment Complex on McNeil Street in Dillon, Wednesday afternoon.

We're told the child is OK. Officials say they aren't sure of the age of the child.

Officials say an upstairs bedroom in one of the unit's caught fire just after 3:19 p.m.

Residents left the building and called 911.

Fire crews say when they arrived, they could see smoke and flames coming from the apartment.

They were able to contain the fire and bring it under control within thirty minutes.

One unit was heavily damaged.

The Pee Dee Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the family who lived in the unit damaged by the fire to find temporary shelter.

Investigators aren't sure what caused the fire.

The Dillon Police Department is assisting in this investigation.
