Darlington County School District bus driver has been placed on administrative leave after she left a sleeping kindergarten student on her bus Friday morning.

District spokesperson Audrey Childers says driver didn't realize the child was sleeping on the bus when she parked it at the bus transportation office off of Highway 151 in Darlington.

Childers says the child was on the bus for about an hour before he was found.

She doesn't say who found the kindergartener.

The child's parents and principal were immediately notified about the situation.

Childers says there are procedures in place for their bus drivers to make sure no child is left on the bus.

She says transportation officials will review those procedures with every school bus driver to make sure this doesn't happen again.

The bus driver will remain on administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the district.
