Rudolph Jamemack Revels, Jr.
Rudolph Revels, 65, has died after collapsing inside the remnants of his burned home last week. Investigator Brian Duckworth with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office says Revels family has indicated that he died from a heart attack.
Revels son, Rudolph Jamemack Revels, Jr., 24, is charged with Arson Second Degree and Burning of Personal Property.
Duckworth says the older Revels was working in a corn field last Wednesday when he learned his home was on fire.
Revels rushed to his house to get some weapons and other personal items. When he got inside, Duckworth says, Revels collapsed.
Revels' daughter was with him and administered CPR. He was then taken to the hospital and died three days later.
Duckworth says the fire was intentionally set in seven places in and around the home and they found traces of diesel fuel near the scene.
Lt. Duckworth has subpoenaed the medical records of Revels to confirm an exact cause of death. Those records will be sent to the Robeson County District Attorney to review.
Duckworth says at this point, the younger Revels hasn't been charged in his father's death, but that could change after further investigation.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) assisted in this investigation.
Revels was laid to rest Wednesday afternoon.
