West Florence High School was evacuated as firefighters put out a small fire in the kitchen.

District Public Information Officer Pam McDaniel says everything is fine and students and staff weren't in danger, but they wanted to clear the building to be on the safe side.

Students were evacuated for about an hour as the responding fire department and school district maintenance department worked to ensure that there were no resulting air quality problems due to the fire.

School officials also indicated that no injuries and no property damage were reported as a result of the fire.

Meals from other schools were brought to West Florence to feed students whose lunches were disrupted due to the incident.

The school resumed normal activities for the remainder of the day.
