(AP) -- South Carolina tourism leaders hope the state's $15 billion industry gets a boost from next month's Democratic National Convention in nearby Charlotte.

Leaders have formed a South Carolina 2012 committee, like the Charlotte 2012 committee for the convention.

Jane Scarborough is executive director of the Olde English tourism district comprised of seven counties between Columbia and Charlotte. She says the DNC has booked some rooms in York County and re-enactors from Historic Brattonsville and Catawba Indians in full regalia will visit those hotels to tell the South Carolina story.

Scarborough expects many folks coming for the convention will take the time to visit the South Carolina coast and other attractions.

The Friday after the convention, motorists will be treated to free peaches at South Carolina's Interstate 77 welcome center.
