Saturday, Francis Marion University welcomed incoming freshman into campus housing.
Hundreds of students flooded residence halls from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and for the 14th year in a row, organizers helped freshman into their rooms.
"The students, faculty and staff volunteers are available on that day to make the transition from home to campus a little easier for both students and their family members," said FMU's Vice President for Student Affairs Teresa Ramey. "For freshman, this day begins their campus life."
FMU freshman Jamesha Massey's home is two hours away from campus.
"This is my first time being out on my own. I haven't been this far away from my home," said Massey. "I'm home sick, but I know I'm doing something good for my future and career wise. So it's good."
Upperclassmen returning to the residence halls return to campus Sunday.
FMU classes begin Monday, and the first full day of classes is Tuesday.
Late registration and drop/add courses take place August 21-24.
