The number of people getting on planes at Myrtle Beach International Airport was down 24.7 percent over July of last year.
Airport leaders say they expected a reduction because Spirit Airlines decreased seat capacity and Direct Air went under.
Aviation information service OAG says airlines reducing seat capacity has impacted air service across North America. It also says flight operations are expected to be down by 21,401 to their lowest point in the past ten years, while offered seats are down by 953,083 when compared with August 2011.
Myrtle Beach International leaders hope airlines will increase seat capacity as we enter golf season.
They say they're working with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday to find new airlines to come to the airport and get existing carriers to expand.
