NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A 2-year-old child was mauled to death by dogs in Mount Pleasant, but it hasn't been determined whether it was an accident or if someone was responsible.

The cause of Ja'Marr Tiller's death is the focus of a relatively rare coroner's inquest in North Charleston scheduled for Friday. Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten has determined Ja'Marr's death was caused by the mauling by two neighborhood dogs. But the manner of death is to be considered by a coroner's jury.

The child died on May 27 when he walked outside through an unlocked door of a Mount Pleasant home. His body was found by his mother after she had run errands.

Four years ago, a coroner's inquest in Charleston County was conducted after a plane crash in Charleston Harbor.
