Investigators from the South Carolina Department of Revenue arrested Jamon Gerard Canty of Myrtle Beach Thursday for one count of Assisting in the Preparation of a False Tax Return.
In 2012, Canty provided to a tax preparer a fraudulent W2 form stating he had earned $15,589 in wages and $701 in state taxes withheld; Canty did not work for the employer listed on the W2 form.
As a result, Canty submitted a fraudulent individual income tax return and requested a state tax refund of $701.
If convicted of the felony charge, Jamon Gerard Canty could face up to $500 in fines and/or up to 5 years in prison.
As the investigation is ongoing, more arrests are expected.
