McLeod Health unveiled Air Reach during a news conference at their Dillon hospital, Wednesday morning.
The helicopter will be used to take critical care patients between McLeod's five hospitals.
Hospital leaders say with the addition of McLeod Loris and McLeod Seacoast in Little River, they needed a faster way to get patients to the medical centers.
"The helicopter allows us to shave precious minutes off when minutes are what matter and we're very excited to have the addition of the service," said Dr. Kris Crawford, McLeod Health.
Air Reach will be stationed at the Marion County Airport. It will be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The air ambulance service provider is Med-Trans Corporation. The company has been in business for more than 20 years, providing services for 48 bases in 18 states in the U.S.
In addition to Air Reach, McLeod has two critical care transport ambulance services, Heart Reach and Child Reach.
