Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives arrested Derrick Bryan Amann, 22, of Surfside Beach on charges that he engaged in a sexual act with a 14-year-old Gilbert girl whom he met in an Internet chat room.
Amann is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child who was between the ages of 11 and 14.
He is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
Amann drove to Gilbert from his home in Surfside Beach for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts with the 14-year-old girl on Tuesday, according to the arrest warrant.
The 14-year-old girl's father reported the incident to the sheriff's department at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday after he found his daughter in Amann's car in the woods off Neely Wingard Road near Gilbert.
Detectives reported the incident to the Horry County Sheriff's Office, which is conducting a follow-up investigation concerning Amann.
