The Booker T. Washington Neighborhood and the City of Myrtle Beach held a series of events calling for change in their community.
This week residents cleaned up an area on Carver Street that is being turned into a Garden of Hope, held a prayer vigil and a town meeting to discuss problems in the area.
Saturday they closed Peace Week by holding a community festival at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church.
Former resident Kendra Keel says the change starts with the residents.
"It might not change the whole neighborhood, if we could change just one child out the neighborhood, then to me it would be worth doing," said Keel.
Lt. Eric DiLorenzo served in the community for 15 years and says he can see a positive change in the community, but says it's not entirely because of police help.
"We have to have people in the community be our eyes and ears we can't be everywhere all at once," says DiLorenzo.
Organizers say they hope to hold another peace week next year.
