Gregory Allen Spry, 45, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and battery and robbery on July 18 and started serving two ten-year sentences Monday at J. Ruben Long Detention Center.

Janice Jordan with the 15th circuit solicitors office says Spry was sentenced to ten years for each charge, but will serve them concurrently.

Police say he carjacked two people, caused two crashes, and eventually landed in the Waccamaw River on June 22, 2011.

Police found the car at the end of Star Bluff Drive in the Wampee community near the IGA on Highway 90. They say Spry tried to jump the river in the car. He made it about 40 feet before it crashed in the Waccamaw River.
