(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Hundreds of art supporters turned out at the Statehouse to protest Gov. Nikki Haley's veto of funding for the South Carolina Arts Commission.

The rally on Monday evening came a day before House members consider whether to override two vetoes totaling $2.4 million in state taxes for the commission's operations and local grants. The vetoes also eliminated federal funding.

The Senate meets Wednesday to consider any of Haley's 81 vetoes that the House overrides Tuesday.

Organizer Natalie Brown says she wanted the rally to focus on the arts, not speakers. There were groups of drummers, while others played guitar and violin on the Statehouse steps. Painters also set up on Statehouse grounds.

The Arts Commission dispenses grants money for arts projects around South Carolina and oversees the state art collection.
