(AP) -- Six people from the Carolinas have been indicted as being part of a dogfighting ring in Robeson County.

U.S. Attorney Thomas G. Walter said Thursday that James Matthew Blackman, Ricky Dial, Jimmy Jacobs and Frank Jacobs are all facing dogfighting charges. Blackman, Dial and Jimmy Jacobs are from Maxton. Frank Jacobs is from Laurinburg.

Two people from South Carolina - Tony Harris and Ozell McLain - have also been charged.

Prosecutors say the six trained and bred pit bulls for fighting, bet on fights and took admission fees.

Court records did not list attorneys for any of the defendants. A court hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in Raleigh.
