The Hartsville Police Department plans to distribute fans at the Coach TB Thomas Sports Center at Byerly Park on Washington Street Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The box and stand fans will come with no income criteria and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

"Extreme summertime temperatures can pose a serious risk for those without a way to cool off," Hartsville Police Chief James Hudson said in a press release. "Providing electric fans for those who may need them is a good way to help our residents stay safe this summer."

Donations and grants made the distribution possible.
