COLORADO SPRINGS -- A number of wildfires continue to burn in Colorado and now more than 32,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes as the fire spreads through Colorado Springs.

With a total of eight fires burning, Colorado is having its worst wildfire season in a decade, according to ABC News.

A fire near Colorado Springs erupted Saturday and grew out of control to more than 3 square miles early Sunday, prompting the evacuation of more than 11,000 residents and an unknown number of tourists. Authorities said Sunday that they were allowing about 5,000 of those residents to return.

However, the fire continued to burn through the Springs and more than 26,000 Colorado Springs residents were evacuated Tuesday, according to our sister station Fox 21 in Colorado Springs.

The Waldo Canyon fire started June 23 west of the city and now covers more than 10 square miles.

To the north in Boulder County, officials evacuated 26 households when a wildfire erupted Tuesday afternoon. In northern Colorado, the 136-square-mile High Park Fire has destroyed 257 homes and killed one woman.
