(AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley is defending her husband's Facebook post in which he called South Carolina lawmakers cowards for not voting on a government restructuring bill she favored.

Haley said Tuesday her husband has the right to express his frustration. Michael Haley is also an officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard.

Haley's husband said he was amazed there were cowards in the South Carolina Senate who are afraid to take a vote during the same week three of the state's National Guard soldiers died in combat.

Haley's proposal died in the Senate last week without a vote.

Sumter Sen. Phil Leventis called Michael Haley's statement politics at its worst, and said he didn't think the three soldiers died for a new South Carolina Department of Administration.
