Firefighters from Timmonsville-Sardis and West Florence fire departments responded to a house fire on Mount Carmel Road just outside of Timmonsville, Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials say a call came into 911 at 2:13 p.m. saying flames were shooting through the roof of the house.

They say a family of four was inside the home but got out safely.

The family's next door neighbor, Brian Johnson, says when he heard what was happening he immediately left work to see if his neighbors were OK.

"We're good neighbors," he said, "and I was just concerned when I seen the smoke worrying about our farm and here it was our neighbor. Unfortunately their house is destroyed - everything that they've worked for all these years."

Firefighters aren't sure what caused the fire.
