A motorcyclist died in a crash Monday morning in Florence County.

Highway Patrol says the driver of a Mercury four-door was traveling south on Alligator Road when he lost control, crossed over the center line and hit a motorcycle about 5:40 a.m.

Florence County Coroner Bubba Matthews identifies the motorcyclist as Ronald Hackett, 54.

Part of Alligator Road was shut down for hours as Highway Patrol investigated the crash.

Hackett was wearing a helmet.
