An Horry County couple called police Sunday after they discovered several sticks of dynamite inside a relative's barn off Gardner Drive in Loris.

Horry County police and Horry County Fire Rescue firefighters blocked off the intersection of Heritage Road and Bonnie Bay Road while the dynamite was removed.

The couple found the dynamite in an old box while cleaning out the barn, according to the police report.

Horry County's bomb squad was called and successfully removed the explosives. Lt. Myron Creel said it's not uncommon for police to receive such calls because farmers used dynamite to remove stumps on their property in the past.

No injuries were reported. Charges will not be filed.
