Horry County police say tips from the public have helped them solve several thefts they've been investigating from Little River to Conway.

June 1st, they arrested John Mitchell Hughes, 20, of Myrtle Beach, and charged him with 16 counts of Breaking into Motor Vehicles and two counts of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

May 31st police released a surveillance picture of the suspect. They say he was breaking into a car in the Carriage Lake Subdivision.

That picture led to several tips, which then led them to arrest Hughes.

"This clearly demonstrates the success that can occur when there is cooperative effort between the police and the community. These are our communities and together we can keep them safe," said Horry County Police Interim Chief Saundra Rhodes in a news release.
